This is a cover of the yes song "Then", from "Time and a Word". I did this for Jon Anderson who I had met indirectly through Alimar (whom I've collaborated with on several project). Jon liked it.

The sax was done by a recent friend of mine, Jamison Smeltz. Jamison is an incredible woodwinds player and gave me some excellent tracks for this tune, including Soprano, Alto and Baritone Saxes.

I did the arrangement, sang and played the additional instruments, including guitar, bass, piano and percussion (some loops).

more like Gentle Giant than Yes here Steve. I love Gentle Giant! Also love Yes of course.
Love all the cross rhythms. Classy stuff.

Then. And then some. Ambitious project but you have pulled it off big time, Steve. Your friend is indeed a fine wind player. Complex but highly musical and accessible, at the same time. Layers of goodness. Really like the vocal work, too. Impressive.

Yes, dig the reference to Gentle Giant. Very nice sax work. I can see what drew you to this song.

I wonder, what's in the air? I recently did a remake of Time and a Word, now Then. Are people liking "smart" music again? Sounds great.

Yes...and YES...
I just listened to your "Then" and it really caught me by surprise. I am not familiar with the original material, but this arrangement struck me as completely jazz and the tempo and complexity of the arrangement just blew me away. Very very cool stuff and so much fun to listen to.

That having been said, I find it especially sweet that you took the time to listen to Andante Languidamente, a piece definitely at a polar opposite space from your "Then". Makes me think of how wonderful MacJams has been over the years where not only different kinds of music can be presented, but where completely different kinds of musicians can appreciate the work of others no matter what the genre. Viva la diference.
