Having gone right to the edge of a breakdown back in 2012 and knowing a few other people who actually fell in the hole but somehow pulled them selves back out I started to notice something we all had in common. Namely although we are doing generally fine these days we are none of us quite as resilient as we used to be. The thought occurred driving to work and I pulled into the next lay by and the lyrics just flowed from recognising that. As for the tune I went for swing beat for a change. Anyway here it is people. It might resonate with a few perhaps?!!

Day to day presures
We take in our stride
But we have to withdraw
And find somewhere to hide
This is what we do
It's how we survive
This is what we've become

Our resilience will never be
As robust as it once was
For life we will carry the scars
We put on our mantle
Of smiles and cheeriness
Our demons we keep in a jar

Keeping one eye on the black puppy
Don't let him grow to a dog
Feeling fine in the sunshine
When people can be kind
But still looking out for the fog

Flashbacks and nightmares those panic attacks
When you feel the ground opening
You musn't look back
Take control of your breathing
And look straight ahead
This is what we've become

For the sake of our children and others we love
We keep pressing forward some look to above
Check on our headspace take each day as it comes
This is what we've become

Beautiful song Mark. It never ceases to amaze me how much you share about your life via your music. A very polished production.

Greatly appreciated, and, though out the production there is a sense of compassion and wisdom, except that part about killing puppies... that part was disturbing.
Enjoy your panic and anxiety, after all, no one can have them exactly as you do, it is part of what makes you unique.
Thank you for posting your material here with us, you are holding up the standards here with your contributions. Bravo!

Resonant without a doubt
I lived with it most of my adult life and continue to.

I don't know about resilient but I've got really good at hiding it. I told a friend about it recently and they said they'd no idea I was depressed.

A really interesting song Mark in many ways. The very light touch on the vocals and instrumentation belie the message. The message is articulately expressed and I recognise myself in much of the lyrics.

A fine and honest piece of work.

A light tune for a serious matter
It's a surprisingly “light” tune to be concerning such a serious subject.

Too many people fail to realize – until it's too late or nearly so – that our brains are "part of our body," too.   They need nutrition, and they can have allergies.   (An acquaintance of mine once traced seizures to broccoli!)   Your brain literally gets sick, but since you are by definition on the inside of the thing, it interferes with its own recognition and treatment.   But, you are still here, and you know what you face and what to do.   God bless you.

It has to be a good sign that you are confident enough to use music as a vehicle to talk about life's travails, Mark. Really like this. The lightness of touch in the arrangement and the vocals provides a wonderful sense of whimsy and hope. So well done. Thanks. Take care.
