Description
Well, I don't think I could come up with a more opposite song than my last post.
Of course I'm all the vocs and attempted to play an old guitar style. Yeah, even that virtuoso double-note lead.
The worst and most time consuming part, though, was all the overdubs it took for me to play the entire string and brass sections. Don't wanna do that again too soon. Whew!

Lyrics
Vintage Blues
Sam Dixon 2017

Word to the wise, no need to reply
I know you think that I maybe crazy
Leaving you, all alone in the crowd

I've sacrificed, thought it wise
So all I ask is you reconsider
I'm leaving you to make up your own mind

We can make a date, this Saturday night
Underneath the fine Paris moon
Try to play it safe, no bother to fight
And cause it all to end too soon

So what do you say? Give it a try?
I'll even send you a kind reminder
Start anew instead of giving me these vintage blues

A sip of wine, then off to dine
Start anew instead of giving me these vintage blues

We can make a date, this Saturday night
Underneath the fine Paris moon
Try to play it safe, no bother have a fight
And cause it all to end too soon

I know that you would see, the right reasoning
After we've a cocktail or two
And if you'd like a dance, it's alright with me
As long as it's just me and you

So what do you say? Give it a try?
I'll even send you a kind reminder
Start anew instead of giving me these vintage blues
Start anew instead of giving me these vintage blues

Is there any genre you haven't nailed? Celtic? Polka? Existential prog? Ambient funk? Anything?

Superb
Great from start to finish. And the vocals are even better than that. I could listen to a whole album of this stuff.

I've
always had a secret soft spot for this old jazz style. I started to post the original mono mix (just for a tiny tad bit of extra authenticity), but decided to go ahead and put up the stereo version for more modern ears. Appreciate you Graham.

Grea one
Had to comment on how much I liked this one. The fact that you played all the instruments (electronically I assume) just puts the icing on the cake. I too love the 30's, 40's swing jazz blues ballad. Those guys had more music in one song than a lot of rock bands had in a career. Great job Sammie, vocals guitar etc. all tasty and in the groove.

Hey Bronco
Yeah, the voice and guitar is me, but the bass, drums, and strings are Kontakt samples. The horns are a chopped up/rearranged loop. In reality, I wouldn't even know how to hold a violin correctly.

Love the walking bass and the snappy guitar chords. Warm vocal with sweet harmonies. Varied instrumentation. I like it a lot, Sammy!

Worth it!
I know it is a pain to do all that overdubbing, but from a listeners point of view I'm glad you invested the effort. This is wonderful.

Ambitious project. Soooo good. Harmonies to swoon over. Mono would have been cool, too. A fine way to round out 2017. Thanks, Sam.

I
appreciate it guys. My mom loves old classic movies, particularly the comedies. And growing up, I used to hear all those old songs from Abbot and Costello, Lewis/Martin, Hope and Bing. Surprising how much good old music were in those classic comedies. The Andrew Sisters et al kinda grew on me.

usally change myself more than try to top myself. It's always a hit or miss, but I expect that. Thanks for that kind reply, Dean.

Like it better...
than an original era piece, maybe it doesn't have the harshness of a 78. Smooth.

Very well sung and played! You've captured that vintage sound perfectly, with the guitar and the use of the strings and horn/sax break. Digging those harmon mutes! Great song. Thanks for the download!
