Chicken Pokey Special

 Genre: Holiday

Even the rhythm challenged can line dance! More people have danced to the Chicken Dance than any other tune in the last fifty years or so... imagine that for a second, and there is no need for special clothes or any virtue signaling. Wow!
Important tips for the MCs:
This opens with a quote from the Chicken Reel. MC over the top of that and get your dancers ready. Once the Chicken Dance starts it's beaks, wings, tail feathers and then claps, followed by a melody on the organ for spinning your partner or simply turning oneself around. The tempo is slow at the start, but things become faster. The piano plays on the back beats to help the dancers keep time. Cymbal work indicates when the tempo increases, point this out to the dancers so they can listen for the up-tempo warings.
This Chicken Dance folds into the 50s novelty tune The Hokey Pokey arranged for lounge jazz. The transition between the two is great opportunity to collect the dancers and... well the transition harmony in the Rhodes is insane, but effective... the tempo is easy in the Pokey. If the MC gets both arms and legs in, then behind and finishes up with the head in the Pokey, the dancers will have turned around 6 times.
Those of you without line dance experience may need to consult youtube. Have fun!

Have more fun!
If you learn to line dance you will have more fun. No celebration is complete without the kiddos dancing. Celebrate more!

Always needed, seems even more this year. Thanks, Daug, for bringing fresh, original tunes here to MJ this year and the many before.

Hello Jack!
Feel free to use this file to spice up any festive gathering. The Chicken Dance never fails to bring a smile. Thanks for the kudos, I do try to keep the output fresh, having someone notice that is gratifying...thank you.

The Daug is in the house
You're not related to Weird Al by any chance are you? :) This would certainly have people up and moving. Who knows - maybe it will become the next wedding standard? Could happen. I mean, it's got everything for all (or most) ages, including that lounge version of the Hokey Pokey. Nice!!

Been here since the place opened. I hope you enjoy yourself here at MJ. In fall 2009, I erased the 60+ tunes I had posted since day one. MJ had changed, becoming hateful and repressive, and I needed to respond appropriately. What happe... [see more]
