Description
I like trains. I think they are a fine way to transport yourself over large distances. The song speaks for itself and I don't claim to be a scholar on the subject. No answers are to be found in my "train wreck" of a brain! As an aside I think we should have a train that goes from Los Angeles to New York with as few stops as possible and bring back "The City of New Orleans" that used to go to New Orleans from Chicago and back. I would think tourist dollars alone would pay for it.

Lyrics
There's a train in Austin Texas that no one rides, just a ghost train where you can hide
The City Fathers they endorse riding on the steel rail horse
But no-one listens to a thing they say

And all the cars out in the street move so slow out in the heat
It's bumper to bumper that's the way they go
And all that gas costs a whole lot of dough
What is the answer everyone moans

Well I'm late for work again as if that's the biggest sin
In a place where there is so much dust, and everything else turns to rust
In the city that time forgot

There's a train in Austin Texas that no one rides, just a ghost train where you can hide
The City Fathers they endorse riding on the steel rail horse
But no-one listens to a thing they say

And all the cars out in the street move so slow out in the heat
It's bumper to bumper that's the way they go
And all that gas costs a whole lot of dough
What is the answer everyone moans

There's a train in Austin Texas that no one rides, just a ghost train where you can hide
The City Fathers they endorse riding on the steel rail horse
But no-one listens to a thing they say, you better believe no on listens to a thing they say

Nice one bro!
Warm, in-your-face storytelling.

Fine guitar work as always...

You meld a cautionary contemporary tale with a classic backwoods folk vibe here, Tom and it works a treat. Well done. Nice guitar embellishments, too. We caught the fast Frecciarossa trains everywhere round Italy last year and it was the perfect way to get around. Take care.

Train
The Austin light rail is a strange beast. It's strictly a commuter rail to downtown. (I used to live close to downtown, and it was just not possible to take the train north in the morning and back in the afternoon.) I think it actually works as such. But the value of the rail system would probably go up more than linearly if they would manage to build more lines. Unfortunately that got voted down a year (or two?) ago. I'm with you on the long distance trains. I've been in the French and Chinese trains that go 200 miles an hour. Absolutely wonderful. I would visit Houston a lot more if doing so didn't waste 6 hours of my time driving there and back.

Train in Austin
Fine song and some nice picking' there too. I love these songs that tell a story, and your voice is perfect for the subject. Maybe the future train songs will be about Elon Musk's Hyperloop. Although it doesn't seem to have the same sense of nostalgia...

Train
I thought that picture of a train looked familiar. I understand that it's starting to take on more traffic, but it doesn't go anywhere near where I need to go. Addresses a very limited audience. That's what happens when you try to re purpose a single freight line track. Austin needs a better solution than this particular type of train.

I love to play guitar. I have been writing songs for many years and have a large catalog by this time. Songwriting is easy. Writing great songs is hard! Born in Louisiana and live in Texas. I grew up on Chuck, Jerry Lee, Elvis, Ricky, Little Richard ... [see more]
