Stenosis Commitosis

About two months ago I was diagnosed with a condition called Spinal Stenosis. To cut it short, it is when the spinal canal is so narrow that it presses on the spine causing all kinds of weird symptoms such as off balance, neck pain and stiffness, hands and arms cramps and shakiness. Because of neural surgeon's busy schedules I am still a month away from the operation I need. It has been maddening to have to wait so long knowing this is coming and not knowing what I will be like even if the operation is a success.

At first I was scared to do anything for fear of making it worse but finally decided the hell with it I would just do my normal stuff which includes playing guitar (singing is still hit or miss). The instrumental I am posting today is the result.

That description of what's happening to your spine doesn't sound good - unlike the instrumental, that does sound good. Much enjoyed!

same deal with me... mine wasnt so severe though that it was fixed with some of the smaller injections... everybody has a back - if you got one, you got problems.... I like the tune, the clear acoustic sound and the chord changes are nicely done.

Sad news about the health issues, Tom. I hope the operation is successful. It has inspired some fine music, though. Lovely full rich sound and some fine playing. Enjoyed. Thanks. Take care.

Clear and Crisp
The longer you live, the better chances are that something physical will go amiss. Hopefully, the operation will relieve your symptoms .. and your music will continue to flow freely like this clear and crisp piece. Nice work!

Thanks one and all
Rereading this it seems like I was whining for sympathy. I know we all have our problems in life. Actually I am doing quite fine except for fatigue and some muscle cramps. Just anxiety from waiting so long. First diagnosed 01/05 and the operation will be 03/26, so almost three months. So thanks for listening to my complaints and song. I hopefully can get another song to post before the operation. Tom

I can relate, friend
On Tuesday I finally had the cervical spine surgery that Worker's Comp denied me for 3 1/2 years. Too early to tell how much relief I'll be getting, but I haven't been able to play guitar a lick since my accident that stirred this all up. Your playing here sounds great - as does the recording itself. Best of luck with the surgery. What's their plan? I assume from your description that the problem is in your neck, like mine. I had ACDF C5-C7. There are lots of videos and animations to watch for the curious.

I know how you feel
I too had to wait for a procedure and it was always in the back of my mind if it would be successful or not and what kind of pain I would endure after the surgery and while recuperating. I have to say that they have a lot of these procedures down and it was easier than expected. It was a success.

Love the guitar. Therapy for the soul.

No, you are not whining. You are giving us info. And a lovely tune - a very rich, open feeling is the mood I hear. I appreciate your focus here. It's a lovely babbling brook of a song. Sweet job carrying on, Tom.

I love to play guitar. I have been writing songs for many years and have a large catalog by this time. Songwriting is easy. Writing great songs is hard! Born in Louisiana and live in Texas. I grew up on Chuck, Jerry Lee, Elvis, Ricky, Little Richard ... [see more]
