Haiku for Planet Earth (Angry Blue Planet track 8)

Get Flash to see this player.

This is the eighth track in my RPM challenge project Angry Blue Planet.

This is a bit more experimental piece. Over the years, I've become enamored with Haiku. I always kind of dismissed it as a form of poetry, but as I've learned more about its history I've grown to have a great deal more respect for it. They're actually fun to compose and, because of their limitations, they force you to be creative. A combination of Haiku with music was actually one of the first ideas I had for this project. I created an appropriate sounded and composed four Haiku to recite over it.

As far as I can remember, I've only done one other similar piece back in the dawn of MJ as part of an Edgar Allan Poe challenge (2005 - holy crap that was 13 years ago!). I had fun with it and may try it again in the future.

Hope you enjoy!

Haiku for the Earth
©2018Joseph Gurner

Lonely mote of dust
floating, blue against black night
Endless journey through time

Sky opens above
Earth spreads below, sun-warmed breeze
bathes my face. I smile

Birds sing. Spring rain falls
A tree grows, alone in the
woods. Leaves fall. Winter.

A seed. A plant. Fruit.
A mother. Father. A child.
A beginning. End.
