Description
I have been spending some time going back and re-mixing and replacing tracks in older songs. This is one of them. This was originally recorded back in 2007. I stripped away the old automation and made adjustments. Replaced the original drums and vocals.

Lyrics
i didn't hear the silence in this world
something, somewhere muted my ears
i couldn't see the picture in my face
grand illusions in all shades of gray
who am i serving on a plater of gold
copper and silver crumpled up paper
just be aware of the hand that feeds
please collect all of your tiny things
we find them a little boring

chorus:
in the act of desperation
given the situation
I'm feeding the sharks
in a world of desperation
given the situation
I'm feeding the sharks

treading, floundering in the drowning pool
give me a minute to catch my breath
a silent sigh i divert my eyes
don't want to see those pointy teeth
I'm invulnerable to their bite
but the gains make me give in
the drops of blood where i have been

chorus:
in the act of desperation
given the situation
I'm feeding the sharks
in a world of desperation
given the situation
I'm feeding the sharks

wing tipped sharks come circling in
they will tease but not dare to bite
you will know them by their grins
over the partition you will see their fins
I'm not rich but I'm not poor
it only leaves me wanting more
until the day when i win the lottery
I'm feeding the sharks

I loved it. The reverse echo effects are terrific. The whole thing is great. I'm impressed, is what I'm saying here!

reversing guitar lines can be tricky, especially with a long reverb tail. But, it does give the whole sound something special.

it's a big trip going back to forgotten songs. I've redone several already but there is a lot more I plan to work on. i won't repost all of them though.

Not around in 2007 so this is new to me. Immersive stuff. Great chorus hook. Creative solo. Nice one. Thanks, Vic. Take care.

I use to crank songs out at a quick pace back then. A lot has been learned since then, so now I'm paying the price :-)

The trouble with remixes...
...is that some of the source material is just what it is.

I'm sensing too much of a generational gap here between the guitars, which decidedly lack the high end sparkle, and the drums, which are all sparkle. So maybe you were unhappy with the drum sound, but given the guitar you can only do so much with the drums before it becomes noticable that you have two generations of sounds quality.

yup, i know what your saying
the guitars were recorded with outside equipment. i didn't realize how much emphasis was on the bass side. i added some eq, but that can only do so much. but its an improvement.

most of the older stuff i haven't listened to for many years. so it was a surprise in one way. another surprise was that i could open the old logic express files with the current logic software.

Tinkering with the past
Tricky business - revisiting the past. Sensibilities change (mostly because of improved skills, but also because we evolve through the long immersion with music). I don't think there is a clear answer about tinkering with past efforts. Something may be gained and something often is lost. Sometimes it's the flaws that adds to a song's interest; other times it's those impections that keep us from enjoying our own work. But I say: go for it!

Are you using the same software now as you did back in 2007?

with time, mixing & mastering gets a bit easier or improved software helps. the original was recorded with logic express 7. it didn't have all the nice mastering tools. I redid this with the current logic pro software.
there is still quite a few songs that need some refreshing.

I'm blown away .... kind of Psychedelic ... I am listening through my AKG's and it's the low end that I like.... that bass when you do the chromatic run reminds me a little of McCartney...Listing for the first time and not having anything to compare it too.... I think it's well done considering all the parts you have pieced together....love the ending..do you know where I can get some acid?

Thanks Stan
the original version is still on my song list. one of the things was to get the bass to come out a bit more. so, cool that you caught that. as for acid? you'ld have to go back to 1978 ;-)
