Description
A song inspired by the last conversation I had with my uncle, a remarkable man. Not been on here for quite a while, hope everyone is doing fine. Cheers Mark

Lyrics
My Uncle Fred was a scientist
The last thing he said to me
Was I've done this all of my life
And there's one thing I've come to see

In the end it's only love that matter
In the end it's only love that matters at all

Crowds rush by on a Cambridge street
The beggars hands are so cold
The lady stops and gives him her gloves
For now he doesn't feel so old

I've just read a book about a Brave New World
And the thing that it said to me
Is that science and toys distract the masses
From the thing that they need to see

In the end it's only love that matters
In the end it's only love that matters at all

Marketing departments deceit and lies
A world built on avarice and greed
But it's not about possessions, the things that we own
It's our hearts that we need to feed.

Oh, it's only love that matters
Oh it's only love that matters at all

Great work Mark
A fine set of lyrics. Thoughtful and insightful.

Nicely arranged, very understated and I like the "outro".

And nice to see you back!

Cheers

Smart Uncle Wisdom
This is right outta the English whimsey tradition. The production is interesting and the lyric is outstanding.
Stand out for me is the guitar solo. It is well played and tasteful. That is very rare at MJs.
I would suggest the "boxie" drums might be inappropriate. The hand claps also seem to be strange to my ears as well. You had an idea for a tag ending and that is good thing! The percussion doesn't sound right to me, which is my problem... Thank you for sharing your work with us here.

I love this kind of song
And I can’t even really explain why. The feel of the music, your vocal, and of course the content of the lyrics all combine to a gem of a tune. Thanks...

Great....
But not fully accurate. Love without truth is perhaps more often than not rather anemic if not outright sham. At best mere sentimentalism. No disrespect to uncle Fred intended of course.

Indeed, in a round about way your lyrics support this contention.

All that aside, everything about this piece is magnificent. Whenever I see a post by you I know I'm in for a real treat.

Keep them coming friend!

I thought
that was one of the most pleasant songs to hear on my Sunday afternoon. The ambiance you used gives it an intimate feel, which just adds to the appeal.

Love
The one thing there is not enough of in this world. Instrumentation supports this one nicely. Marimba tones add to the "different" sound that this has at time.
