This is a song made as a celebration to Edgar Allan Poe and his words. I was trying to achieve a feeling of "live recording" in this song... I've used some drum loops, but other than that play all instrument and sing. There's quite a bit of guitar on this one...

A Dream Within A Dream
by Edgar Allan Poe

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

Great stuff!
Love the idea of using selected phrases from Mr Poe's
work. Reminded me a little of Roy Harper for some
reason. Rockin. Like it.

You have Class, man!
I always find your songs very inventive and stylish, always
such interesting subjects. This is really cool.

I think the vocals could maybe be brought forward a bit.
Maybe try a little stereo faze offset by doubling the vocal
track, offsetting the copy one or two tiny units and
panning it left or right. That will bring it out and fill the
space without overwhelming the music.

Excellent Audio Production
cool tune. love the electric piano breakdown and the
craziness that happens right before it.

I think the vocal level is great. Heard every word. Don't
make the vox too loud or it'll sound like kareoke instead
of rock'n'roll.

this song has Energy And Personallity.

Glad you all enjoyed!

pgreenstone: I am not exaclty sure what you are talking
about, I am new to recording, but I think I have an idea. I
was watching a documentary about ABBA recently where
the pruducer was talking about this same technique,
maybe I will try it out!

Totally unexpected treatment of the master poet. Very upbeat, almost
looney (which serves the master well). You do a great job of electrifying
the space-time continuum with your artistry.

I did a rather heavy handed interpretation of the same "Dream Within a
Dream". I laid my baritone recitation voice over a rock-ambient
soundtrack by magullo. http://www.macjams.com/song/14830 .
Thanks for your comment on that, mikkinylund.
