Go With What You Know, Do Your Best With the Rest

Description
In May of 2018 I finally graduated from Optometry school. For the past several years almost all of my music stuff was stowed away while I drank from that firehose. While in school, I would listen to a lot of post-rock because I loved the long form and I was able to formulate a playlist without any lyrics pretty easily. I can't hear Explosions in the Sky without feeling like I'm clicking through optics or binocular vision lectures.

I'm doing RPM this month to get my back into the swing of recording. Just like I did in 2013, I'm focusing on finishing old song ideas. Either from tape recorder or from my phone. These are songs that don't even exist in a garageband format and are usually about 30 seconds long. I have 9 60 minute tapes of unfinished (nay, unSTARTED) material so my goal is to chip away at that stone.

The title of the song is from a particular night of anxiety where I was certain I wasn't going to pass a class. I eventually went with a mantra of "go with what you know and do your best with the rest". Felt appropriate for the type of song and the sound it takes me back to. This is a rough mix as I don't have any monitors yet and I'm still trying to figure out some mixing elements.

Good stuff.
And would be even better with some vocals. Good mix, and good arrangement. Like the way the "chorus" kicks up the dynamics!
