Brand New Day (1982 Track 1 - 2019 RPM Challenge)

Description
This is the first song from my 2019 RPM Challenge. I decided to do an early 80s synth pop homage for this year's challenge, which was a lot of fun to put together. I even had fun making the artwork for the project. The idea was, it's 1982 and you're in your favorite mall browsing Camelot Music or Sam Goody and there it is in all it's XDR cassette goodness.

While it's all synth (no guitars), I did jump around a little stylistically and maybe borrowed some sounds and styles from a little later than 1982. But, I've reached the point in my life where the music of my youth has all blurred together, so it's at least authentic to my hazy memories.

As for the title of the project, 1982 was a big year for me. I turned 15, was a freshman in high school and got my driver's license. All big deals when you're growing up.

The first song, Brand New Day, is an anthemic opening. It should be fairly obvious what 80s ear worm it rips off.

Lyrics
A Band New Day

©2019 Joseph Gurner

A brand new taste of freedom
a brand new sun lights the way
chase the dream forever
see it in my eyes

How long have I wandered
a passenger riding though my life
watching the years go rushing by
see them in my face

A band new day is on us
a brand new time to tell
Living in the moment
shedding off our childhood shell

A brand new road unfolds before us
helping us to find our way
now we’ve reached our destination
We’re living in a brand new day

A brand new heart is beating
filling life with thoughts unknown
finding rhyme and reason
making sense of what I see

How long have I questioned
how long have I missed the light
always learning never knowing
never feeling free

A band new day is on us
a brand new time to tell
Living in the moment
shedding off our childhood shell

A brand new road unfolds before us
helping us to find our way
now we’ve reached our destination
We’re living in a brand new day

All three...

Lots of influences
that I recognise but can't attach names to!

New Order perhaps in the vocal delivery.

Nicely done.

Cheers

Dick

Yeah
Man, this conjures the early 80's. It actually feels like an overture for that period. Well done.
