Description
In 2018, I sort of caught the EP bug, releasing five EPs as One Finite Monkey. Why? After realizing my "sound" for the first time on my LP, "Inside Joke," I felt free to explore other influences in four song increments.

This comes from the EP "A Magician and his Hare," which you can hear in its entirety at https://onefinitemonkey.bandcamp.com/album/a-magician-and-his-hare. I'm channeling the classic rock sound I grew up with, part Springsteen, part Petty, part Dire Straits.

Lyrics
I live in peripheral vision
I haunt the corners of your eye
like a shadow dodges a candle
I am a dark spot in your mind
oh, in your mind.

If you try, you can forget me
I disappear when you close your eyes
and I'm sure you see right through me
but you know that you can't hide
no, you can't hide.

I am a shadow people
I live between the lines
like a shadow dodges a candle
I am the dark spot in your life

The freeway sounds like forever
you can smell twilight like a rose
Will we inherit the thunder
when we have nowhere to call home?
nowhere to call home…

We are a shadow people…

You will rip pages from our story
you will crop us from your times
but we are a forever people
and we live between the lines
between the lines.

We are a shadow people…

"like a shadow dodges a candle"...
Very evocative lyrics beautifully sung. Really dig the arrangement. Kind of Cohen-esque.

Back in my early 20s, I was practicing bass three hours a day, playing in a band with a drummer who practiced six hours a day and a guitarist who was one the "up and coming" lead guitar players of my home town. Plus, I was writing a song every day. I... [see more]
