RECKLESS

Description
Another rocker about that all-too-human condition.

Lest any think me too preachy, please know that my own sordid youth was not unlike that described in this song.

I believe all will one day awaken.

The question facing each individual is will it be in time?

Hope you can enjoy this one!

Lyrics
RECKLESS

I
He's a big dog---an Alpha Male.
He'll grab a passing comet by the tail;
ride it bareback, into the Sun!
Anything goes, so long as it's fun!

He is a wild card, a loose cannon---that's for sure!
He's not concerned with all the rest.
Pursues the ladies with a heart that is impure;
blind to the fact that he's a pest.

II
He's a big dog---an Alpha Male.
He's got the moxy---the wind in his sails.
Thinks it impossible that he could fail;
until one day he's swallowed by a whale.

He's has no time for others suffering and pain.
You know he's really “not to blame;”
but he's left behind a bloody trail of broken hearts.
The body count begins to mount!

Bridge:
On rare occasions he will snatch a lucid moment;
---a nagging insight into his own true condition.
It makes him so uneasy, this unsought-for ferment.
He will suppress it so it doesn't become permanent!

NO!!!

III
He plays the fool---livin' for thrills;
suckin' the bottle and swallowing pills.
Lives like tomorrow never will come, but
they'll be a reckonin' when the day is done!
They'll be a reckonin' when the day is done!

He got no back-up plan; got no ace-in-the-hole.
He laughs and says: “That's how I roll.”
One has to wonder, yeah, I'd really like to know;
who'll have his back, when it's time to pay the toll?

IV
He's the big dog---the reckless one.
Prima Donna! Unfortunate son!
Hollow heart, with nothing to show.
Will he awake before it's time to go?
Will he awake before it's time to go?
Will he awake before...?

Big Dog
Great change-up with the Bolero and into a hard guitar drive.

I've had some uncertainty re
the brief "Bolero" transition, as it sounded out of place to my wife (whose opinion I deeply respect). But she lacks prog sensibilities. Now I'm glad I left it in. Thanks for the validation friend!

reckless
A cool piece with great changes...
Too many reckless persons in the world, especially politicians like Trump and Boris Johnson.
Hope they will pay the price one day
Dig your guitarwork here too

Not really a political tune...
more about morality, but as the two overlap, there is certainly an application. (I would throw Obama and the Clintons into the mix as well.)

Glad you like the guitar work. I'm always striving to improve.

As Cees said
Too many reckless people.

I have little faith they will one day awaken as I see no sign of it unfortunately.

Great song though and the section after the bridge works really well.

Cheers

Again...
not a political tune. As Mark says below, about "a certain kind of male."

I was one of them when I was young. By God's grace though I was able to change, so it can and does happen (by whatever means). Sadly, it remains comparatively rare.

Glad you enjoyed that little romp in the middle!

Great lyrics
You paint a great picture of a certain kind of male. We all know them!! Grabbing passing comet by the tail....a great line! Much enjoyed. Mark

Thank you Mark...
BTW that line was the first to pop into my head. The rest of the lyrics grew from that comet. After all, what could be more reckless? Ha ha...

Be well friend!

Each individual
The alpha male reaching the level of awareness once again?
The opening here is very effective, you did a great job on that.
Thanks for sharing your material here Mike. Your observations on culture, art and humanity always spark.

cool opening Mike. you have your very own prog-rock style going on, a good example of that here. some nice electric flaminco flourishes in the riffs.

Hi Vic...
wanted a Moody Blues type psyche opening on this one. Glad you liked it!

As for the riffs, I think I enjoyed playing the leads on this more than on any other tune I've recorded.

When we thought we were the wisest we were really quite foolish... there is a lesson for us all in that I think!
