Description
I started writing this last year in our friends' place in Ougney-Douvot in what is now "Bourgogne-Franche Comté" (a recently expanded region in eastern France). It's taken almost a year to get the lyrics sorted out and to get confident enough to sing a little of it in French.
We've stayed in the area on three occasions now, and grown to love so much about it. It's not a tourist area, but it has what we enjoy - forests, small villages and friendly people. We feel at home there.
If you're wondering about the french sections, they describe some of the wonderful hikes we've been on there.
Just another song about longing I suppose.
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

Bbm
We’ll be on those trails again some day
Through La Roche and up to Réchandet
Ab
Walking home through blackberry gauntlet
Fresh red wine and strawberry sunset
We’ll be on those trails again some day

We’ll be treading ancient paths again
From Baume les Dames to Mont Dommage
Usine de pipes to Fente de Babre
Maybe we’ll see a chamois next time
Rambling on the razor ridge
We’ll be treading ancient trails again

CHORUS:
Eb C#
I want to go where the evening sun is shining bright
Ab
I want to watch the northern stars at night
Walk with you and understand
Better know this foreign land
Understand

We’ll be sharing ancient paths again
Padded trails of shady green
Le Sentier des Dolines
Notre Dame d’Aigremont
En bas de la colline d'Esnans
We’ll be sharing ancient paths again

Searing summer afternoons
I’m melting in the driver’s seat
Cross the bridge, we’re nearly there
Soaking in the atmosphere
Searing summer afternoons

Travel Brochure
Yer a great salesman for the trade Neil. I could use a trip outback about now, and this song has given me the bug.
There is pitch challenge in the vocal which needs subtractive eq in the "honk" area, these are habitual on yer tunes and I am going to presume them to be features from now onwards lol...
This has a travel log tone and speaks of an appreciation of nature as Muse. Good on ya!

Habitual honk feature :)
Sounds like a new reality TV show Daug. I'd be quite happy to sort out the pitch challenge, and on reviewing some of my earlier tunes, know that 1) I've always had challenged pitching (I think of it as "sliding up to the note"); 2) sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't; 3) it appears to be getting to be more of a problem as I get older. I will work on it - and I do appreciate you're comment.
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

French
Wonderful song, Neil.
France is a beautiful country, been there often
I like the addition of the accordeon, gives it a French twist :-)
Enjoyed!

Subtle accordian
It is a lovely area. I've stayed with Marc twice but only overnight sadly and never got to do any walks.

A song which truly reflects the beautiful and peaceful countryside.

Cheers

Beautiful and peaceful indeed
Thanks for listening Dick. The walks are what really makes it for us. There's a sense of "sauvagerie" about the forests and the ancient towns and villages that is different to the rest of France. The people we've met there are very welcoming, friendly and generous.
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

So nice...
Really love that descending chorus before and after the tasty lead soloing. A bit Cohen-esque and that's a good thing!

Folk on my friend!

c'est bon
like it. I've only spent a week or so under southern skies, but I found star gazing just amazing and often want to do it again, so I get what you're talking about.
love the accordion I've been looking for a midi accordion for ages without success.

Finally back...
This has both a loping, walking sort of pace and a cafe sort of vibe at the same time. There's that feel of a long and unpressured saunter to it, coupled with a sense of pausing-on-the-journey and reflecting...

I love the lyrics on this one, although I may be unduly influenced by my admiration for your ability to pull off correct French pronunciation with just that whisper of Australian accent....

It certainly communicates that sense of, "I'm-on-my-own-journey-but-I'm-on-a-sort-of-universal-journey."
